An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure

In spite of the fact that my sister and I live 737 miles apart we manage to find a way to do everything together.  My Young Living essential oils experience began with an email from Stacy, “Have you ever bought essential oils?”  That led to many phone calls and emails, which led to me being pumped!   With every conversation I added more and more to my list of things these amazing oils could do.  I think I need to make a list of things these oils cannot do…much shorter list.

My number one priority was to treat my son’s asthma, followed by my other son’s digestive issues, helping with our allergies, and using oils for the little things that come up along the way.  For example, my husband burned himself the day after our starter kit came and immediately put lavender on it.  He has been bragging to anyone who will listen about how fast his burn healed.   

Toward the top of the list of reasons I bought my starter kit was for the big health issue we don’t have…yet.  Both of my grandfathers had cancer, and two of my aunts have had it.   I would say it runs in our family, but with all of the stories I hear, and the number of people I personally know with cancer, I think it runs in every family.  So while I set a short term goal of my kids going an entire school year without a sick day.  I set a long term goal for myself…I am not going to get cancer!

Armed with my Young Living starter kit I began.  I don’t do all of this every day.  I have found with essential oils a little goes a long way.  Knowing that stress is one of the biggest problems with many health issues, I use Joy and Stress Away to keep myself positive.  I diffuse Frankincense which has been shown to reduce Cortisol and fight cancer cells.   I am working toward being chemical free like my sister, replacing cleaners and beauty products with oils.  And through some research I did for a friend, I came across my favorite cancer preventer….lemon!  Drinking a drop or two in a glass of water is the one thing I do every single day.

Welcome to the Scentsable Sisters blog!

Welcome to Scentsable Sisters!  We are two sisters (Stacy and Bonnie) who want to take control of the health of our families. This blog is where we will share our journey with homemade natural products and Young Living Essential Oils.

My (Stacy) journey began with a desire to detoxify my home. I wish I could say we had already detoxified our pantry...but that will be a much longer, much more difficult journey for this family!  Instead, I decided to begin where I could...cleaning!.  No one in my family cares what I use when I clean, as long as they aren't asked to clean with me, lol.

I decided that I needed to try out these essential oils that I had heard so much about while I was searching for cleaning recipes. When a friend of mine invited me to a Young Living Essential Oils class online, I went and was hooked!  Not only would I have the ingredients to clean my home, we could get a good grip on several health issues we were battling.  I had no idea essential oils were so full of healing.

My favorite oil so far is Thieves. Within days of opening my kit, this fantastic little oil kept me from being down and out for several days with a virus that was going around our house. At the first hint of a sore throat I started drinking water with a drop or two of Thieves and never did get sick.  It was amazing!  I also love it for cleaning.  It took care of the mold and mildew in my shower as well as bleach, but without the toxic fumes!!

Thieves is also my favorite oil to diffuse. I love the cinnamon and cloves smell and it feels good to know that I'm cleaning the air, not polluting it more with chemicals and artificial perfumes!
